Born poor in 1922, Jay courtney and his five siblings learned to value what they had and gained creativity to craft the things that they could not afford.  He Graduated from Fredrick High School in 1940. In 1947 Jay entered the Merchant Marine Service as a 1st Engineer where he developed his hard work ethic.  He spent the little free time he had reading books and had a goal of learning a new word everyday.  After leaving the merchant marines Jay began representing companies in the oil and gas industry.  These experiences led Jay to start his own wholesale company, Jay Courtney Co., focused on customer relations and dependable service.  In 1982 Jay teamed up with his brother-in-law to start his own Manufacturing Company, Jayco Vent Valves Inc.

Jay was a member of Village Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, coached basketball, taught Sunday School, maintained heating and air conditioning, and helped in raising capital.  When he wasn’t working, you could often find him fishing or playing the harmonica.  Jay past away in Copper Mountain, Colorado while enjoying the mountains.  He learned to ski when he was 60 years old, and enjoyed it till the day we lost him.
